Iowa Hawkeye Legends: The Gorilla Man
It being July, there isn’t too much to report regarding the Iowa Football team. It seems the players have been avoiding injuries and the law of late, which is a great thing.
With 44 days until Iowa kicks off against Northern Iowa and 12 days until Iowa’s Media Day (which I’ll be covering for DITV), I thought I’d use this time to focus on some off-the-field- Hawk items.
The first is the Gorilla Man. In 1994, this fan sprinted across Minnesota’s Metrodome during the Hawkeye/Gopher football game (a game Iowa won, 49-42) wearing a gorilla suit and an Iowa cape. He would later repeat the performance during an Iowa home basketball game against Northwestern at Carver Hawkeye Arena. The video is here:
I don’t know who this guy is. If he’s out there and you know him, or maybe YOU’RE him… I’m begging for more Gorilla Man in 2009. How’s about a 15 year reunion?
